just as simple as it sounds…Pay It Forward today. Do something nice for someone else. It can be something big or it can be something small, but make sure it makes a positive difference in someone’s day.

Please make sure you don’t just Pay It Forward to someone else, also don’t forget about yourself. Do something for yourself today that makes yourself feel good.

You can do your good deed for someone you know or a complete stranger.

Let them know why your are doing that good deed and ask them to Pay It Forward by doing a good deed for someone else.

If you have the chance and you want to go even further, do 3 good deeds today and ask those 3 to do 3 good deeds for 3 other people. It will amaze you to see how fast it multiplies!

Please know that there are TONS of Charities out there that need your help every day. We here at The Ultimate Fundraiser are encourage all of you to volunteer your time and donate items for Charity.

The best thing you can do, is to Volunteer and Donate your items/time to Charities that are important and meaningful to you.

It is easy…just Google or research online Charities in your area and then give them a call. 90% of Charities want/need your help immediately and they will even tell you those needs. Set aside and allocate some time in your week or in your month. Any little bit of help goes a long way.

Also, do a little Spring Cleaning. There are usually many things in your house that you don’t need or use anymore that can really go to benefit someone else and there are TONS of Charities out there that will gladly take those donated items.

The bottom line, is that there are many great Charities out there and many different Non-Profits that need your help. And don’t just do it by yourself. Encourage your family and friends to participate too because there are strength in numbers. Just make sure you do whatever you can to help those around you, no matter how little it is, it is a tremendous help!

Here in the US we take clean safe water for granted and the average person uses over 570 liters of water a day! Compare this to a world where 768 million people do not have access to clean safe water, which is one in ten people. People have to walk miles just to get water from a dirty pond, if not rely on expensive water vendors. Women in Africa and Asia often carry water on their heads weighing 20kg (44lbs) (UNDP: Human Development Report, 2006) and spend hours a week fetching this basic necessity for the household, oftentimes children are involved in this endeavor too. Time and energy spent on fetching water negatively impacts people’s life in other areas like earning potential and education in the case of children. On top of everything else, unsafe drinking water results in water-borne disease killing 2000 children a day.

Thankfully, organizations like WaterAid are trying to tackle this problem and last year they were able to provide 1.7 million people with safe water, please help bring clean water to children around the world, help fundraiser for this cause and donate at: http://www.wateraid.org These guys are doing a great job!

Also, we in the need to make an effort to not waste water and help in water conservation, but that’s a topic for another blog.

Doing Good: Teach for America

Every child in America irrespective of his or her socio-economic status deserves access to a great education. Unfortunately this is not so as low-income kids don’t have the same access to a great education as their wealthier peers according to Teach For America. Their mission is to eliminate educational inequality by developing leaders that will help close the gap. Teach for America recruits individuals to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools. These individuals are trained so they have a positive impact on their students and Teach for America also fosters leadership of alumni to address this problem.

The Teach for America corps are united by a shared vision that one day all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. “In the 2013-14 school year, 11,000 corps members will reach more than 750,000 students while 32,000 alumni will continue to deepen their impact as educational leaders and advocates.”

According to the Associated Press Teach for America has been in Hawaii since 2006 helping the Department of Education fill a teacher shortage in areas that need it the most. This year they will lose $1 million in state funding which sad to say, will hamper efforts to support much-needed teachers in struggling schools. Teach for America will have to cut the number of teachers that come to Hawaii by half this year. This is not going to help a school system, that is, to put it lightly not the best in the country. Quality education needs to be a priority for the state and country, and shouldn’t even be considered when budget cuts are being made considering how important the role of education is in providing a better future for the individual and the community as a whole. Perhaps we should mobilize a massive fundraiser for Hawaii’s schools to help provide quality education to every child irrespective of their socio-economic status. All, ideas and thoughts are welcome.

On our recent trip to Hilo, Hawai‘i to launch a fundraiser, we visited the Pacific Tsunami Museum, coincidently, it was April 1, the anniversary of the big 1946 Tsunami – the deadliest recorded in the islands history, when there was also a Tsunami advisory because of the earthquake in Chile.

Tsunami is a Japanese word which means harbor wave, don’t be confused tho’, it is not a tidal wave since they are not caused by waves. They can happen anytime of the year and are generated by the displacement of water triggered by a seismic event. Don’t be foolish and surf the tsunami waves, stay away from the beach and ocean. Tsunamis can travel at speeds ranging from 450-500 miles per hour and can impact coastlines for hours. The waves can come ashore as a wall of water, a rapidly rising tide or a series of surf-like breakers. In Hawai‘i tsunami’s have killed more people than hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions combined.
