We have ALL been here…the question is how many times and how bad was it?!?!?!
***IF you are BRAVE enough, please leave a comment telling us how many times this has happened to you AND/OR the WORST time, how bad it was and where you were when it happened!***
***Also, forward/send/share this with everyone you know and DARE them to respond!***
When was the last time a movie, a book, or a television show left you cold despite all your friends (and/or all the critics) raving about it? What was it that made you go against the critical consensus?
I’m no film critic by any means but the critically acclaimed, award-winning film The Artist was a film that left me not too impressed after all I’d heard about it and the numerous awards it had won. I was expecting to be wowed. It is a well-made film with great acting and stood out as a silent black and white film – a salute to a bygone era. But the greatness stopped right there for me. My favorite scene was of the dog rescuing the main character from the fire.
The plot was too simple, predictable and straight forward, the same main theme (change in cinema from the silent era to the talkies) against more complex plot lines would’ve been more interesting. It felt like the main intent of the film was to pay tribute to the silent film era and the focus wasn’t on the plot. Maybe they figured a more complex plot would detract from the main theme.
My thoughts in one sentence upon watching The Artist was “hmmm, good black and white film, good acting, meh.” Left me with no wow!!, no mulling over the film, no emotional connection, nada, nothing. But then it doesn’t matter for it’s just a matter of taste. They won many awards!
What did you think of this film?
As is usual, I stopped by her stall at the vegetable market for our weekly greens.
“Hi, how are you today?” “Beautiful morning isn’t it?” She acknowledged me with a slight nod of the head and an averted glance. “Glad to get my hands on these while they’re still fresh,” I said, picking up a bunch of locally-grown spinach…
Her silence put a full stop on my banter.
I retreat to my thoughts and remind myself to not disturb the peace of her silence; maybe she’s sad, maybe she’s stressed by the weight of whatever life has thrown at her, maybe there’s chaos swirling all around her.
So, if you’re ever at the stall with the bright yellow umbrellas – no friendly chatter, just get what you want, pay and leave quietly.
A little bit of peace and quiet is what she wants…maybe?
