In response to WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries
I dislike zoos, every time I visit a zoo, I’m happy to be among these amazing animals. But then I start looking more closely at their faces and eyes and begin to wonder what it feels like to live out their lives in enclosed spaces, within the boundaries that are set for them for no fault of theirs, where many of these same creatures had once roamed the vast reaches of the earth. But then maybe the images I’d seen of them in books and screens would never have come alive. That sounds a bit selfish. Some say zoos play an important role in conservation, maybe it’s the only way conservation becomes real for many people. It’s the only reason that makes a tiny bit of sense to me. So based on this reason, my conclusion is that we enclose these majestic, beautiful and quirky animals within these walls and fences because of the limits and boundaries of our own minds, imagination and understanding.
