Tesla just raised the bar by introducing a new and larger 100 kWH battery pack making the Tesla Model S and Model X faster. These Tesla cars will step it up into ludicrous speed powered by what they’ve dubbed the ludicrous mode. The ludicrous mode enables the Model S to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5, making it the third-fastest production car ever made. The first two are Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder. But according to Tesla, it is the quickest all electric vehicle that has the capacity to seat up to five adults and two children.
The new battery also allows the car to drive an estimated 315 miles on a single charge. The people at Tesla say this is the first electric vehicle to go above a range of 300 miles. “The 100 kWh battery also increases range substantially to an estimated 315 miles on the EPA cycle and 613 km on the EU cycle, making it the first to go beyond 300 miles and the longest range production electric vehicle by far.” (Tesla.com)
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk said “I think it’s a great message to the world and really speaks to the fact that electric cars are the future. That’s just a very positive message for the electric vehicle industry as a whole beyond just Tesla.” (recode.net)
