The second annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards celebrated those who have used the influence of sports to bring about positive change in society. The event was hosted by Laila Ali.
Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers was named Sports Humanitarian of the Year. Through his Chris Paul Family Foundation, he has combined education, sports and community to steer change. He has helped open a newly refurbished Boys & Girls Club in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts, which is part of a $1 million commitment Chris has made to Boys & Girls Clubs across the country. The San Francisco Giants won for Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year and the NBA received the League Humanitarian Leadership Award.
Chris Paul has made it his mission to do whatever possible to make sure children have the opportunity to succeed. From providing kids’ schools with the proper equipment and technology to raising money through charity work, Paul has worked alongside the Chris Paul Family Foundation, State Farm and the L.A. Clippers Foundation to assist throughout the community however possible, particularly when it comes to giving children the resources to succeed. (clippers.com)
