As of Sunday, Pacific Time 11pm, a GoFundMe campaign for the victims of Pulse shooting has raised more than $5 million of the $7 million goal. The campaign was created on June 12 by Equality Florida – Florida’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. Donations have been made by donors from more than 100 countries.
The fundraising is in response to a shooting last Sunday at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, when a man opened fire killing 49 people and injuring another 53. Their original goal was $100,000 and they reached almost $1 million within the first 10 hours. The new fundraising goal is $7 million.
Equality Florida set up the page after being overwhelmed with inquiries from people wanting to help. Equality Florida is partnering with the National Center for Victims of Crime, which helped distribute money raised following other mass shootings.
“It is imperative that all victims’ families and survivors call NCVC’s Victim Hotline, so that victims’ families and survivors have access to these critical financial resources. The NCVC will work with law enforcement and government agencies to quickly verify their identity, identify their expenses, and process disbursements.”
