President Barack Obama was joined by Award-winning hip-hop artist Macklemore  in his weekly address to talk about opioid abuse in the U.S. In the video, the President discusses the steps his administration has taken to stop the country’s opioid abuse epidemic. The president also called on Congress to increase funding for drug treatment.

Macklemore describes the problem as personal, saying that he too battled addiction and lost a friend who overdosed on pain relievers. Macklemore said he now wants to help others that face similar challenges.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says opioids (including prescription pain relievers and heroin) were responsible for 28,000 fatal overdoses in 2014, and the CDC has classified the problem as an epidemic.
