The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) just announced the availability of financial assistance to state wildlife agencies for issues related directly to the management of white-nose syndrome (WNS). White Nose Syndrome is a disease that has been killing North American bats. This opportunity is only open to state wildlife management agencies. Priority will be given to proposed activities where WNS or the causative fungus, Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd) has been detected. However all states are encouraged to apply.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to help state partners build or expand WNS management programs. They hope the funds will assist state agencies to:
- implement actions to stop the spread of WNS
- support WNS-related research activities
- monitor bat populations and WNS progression
- conduct outreach on WNS and bats
