Today is International Women’s Day. Across the globe, women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement but progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places. The World Economic Forum has predicted that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Then in 2015 due to a slow down in closing the gap, they estimated the gender gap wouldn’t close entirely until 2133.
The theme for this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day is to campaign for gender parity. According to Wikipedia, “Gender Parity Index (GPI) is a socioeconomic index designed to measure the relative access to education of males and females. In its simplest form, it is calculated as the quotient of the number of females by the number of males enrolled in a given stage of education (primary, secondary, etc.).”
We can all pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly. Globally with men and women joining forces we can help women realize the limitless potential they offer economies the world over. To champion the cause and gender parity and make a pledge, click here.
