Today is the last day of the Hour of Code campaign which celebrated Computer Education Week from December 7-13. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science designed to make coding more accessible and prove that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. You can host an Hour of Code at any point in time during the year, but this special campaign’s goal was to encourage as many students as possible to try an Hour of Code to celebrate Computer Science Education Week.
Computer science helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in the current technology driven world we live in. The Hour of Code is organized by Code.org, a public 501c3 non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students.
A coalition of partners have come together to support the Hour of Code including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Hour of Code activities are self-guided and simple. All you have to do is pick the tutorial you want, and pick an hour — they take care of the rest. They also have options for every age and experience-level, from kindergarten and up. So just try it or get your kids to try it, you never know where it will take them or you… For more info, click here.
