The 43rd Annual Honolulu Marathon takes place this Sunday, December 13, 2015 and will begin at 5am. The Honolulu Marathon is held every year on the second Sunday of December. For those that want to participate in the 2016 Honolulu Marathon, it will take place on December 11, 2016.
The Honolulu Marathon course is mostly flat with the exception of Diamond Head with the highest point on the course being 124 feet above sea level near mile 9. Those that want to participate in something slightly easier can attempt The Honolulu Marathon Race Day Walk, which is a a non-competitive 10K fun run/walk and will be held along with the start of the Honolulu Marathon. It’s course will be the first 10K of the marathon.
There will be 34,000 runners participating this year, which is up from the previous years. One reason the Honolulu event continues to grow is because it’s one of the few marathons without a time limit. You’re allowed the to walk the marathon too and walkers can take as long as they need to finish. Other marathons typically shut down after a certain number of hours and require qualifying times. The Honolulu Marathon is the fourth-largest marathon in the United States, which only ranks behind New York, Chicago and Boston marathons.
