International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21st. The UN General Assembly has declared it as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace with and between communities and nations.
The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” to highlight the importance of parts of society working together towards peace. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly’s opening session, which is held annually on the third Tuesday of September. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982.
Then in 2001 September 21st was declared as the annual day of non-violence and cease-fire when the United Nations invites all nations to honor the cessation of hostilities and commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace. What will you be doing today to promote peace today?
