Athletes Gone Good was created by DoSomething.org, the largest organization that encourages young people to take action for social change and also provides a platform to do so. Athletes Gone Good just came out with a list of the top 20 charitable athletes. The way the winners were chosen was the result of public votes, their social media influence and advice from the Athletes Gone Good Advisory Committee. The top three Athletes Gone Good on their list are soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, WWE star John Cena and tennis champion Serena Williams.
Cristiano Ronaldo made it to the top of the list by excelling on the field and in his charity work. He has raised money for various causes and has donated more than $83,000 to a 10-year-old fan in need of brain surgery and giving more than $165,000 to fund a cancer center in Portugal. Ronaldo is also a global spokesperson for many causes including childhood hunger and obesity.
John Cena was placed second on the list for granting nearly 500 wishes with Make-A-Wish. He is supposed to be the most requested celebrity Wish granter. Cena also supported other organizations including the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon championship this summer and took the third place on the Athletes Gone Good list. She does a lot of work with the Serena Williams Foundation and as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador; she also supported the 1 in 11 campaign to provide access to education for all.
