When Bruce Feiler was diagnosed with cancer, he worried about his family and especially his daughters — that he wouldn’t around to advice them, celebrate milestone and such with them. So he asks some of his close friends to become a Council of Dads, who would dip into their wells of wisdom and advise his daughters as they grew up in a worse-case scenario.
So Feiler and his wife set parameters for this council of dads such none of them being relatives because they are going to be in their life anyway and picking guys who he had an intimate friendship with over those he had been friends with over a longer period of time, he found that his more recent friends had traits he aspired to be. The council of dads had to have qualities that he could relate or aspired to in his own life. This idea soon caught on and people started using it in their own lives and applying it in their own way.
It is a thought provoking talk and we thought it would be an appropriate talk to share with you on father’s day. Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there!
